Design memorandum
Design memorandum are issued as interim updates to the Bridge Design Manual. Active design memorandums supersede the Bridge Design Manual contents and are currently enforced.
- 2025-01 Bridges with fill over superstructure (PDF 88KB) revises Chapter 8 Walls and Buried Structures (PDF 3.0MB) updates WSDOT's design policy to distinguish bridges with fill from buried structures as a structure type.
- 2024-03 Standard Plan Barrier and Moment Slab on Structures (PDF 221KB) revises Chapter 10 - Sign, Barrier, Approach Slabs, and Utilities (PDF 8.6MB) providing guidance for the use of standard plan barriers and moment slab on structures.
- 2024-02 Buried Structure Standard Plan Implementation Updates (PDF 42MB) revises Chapter 8 Walls and Buried Structures (PDF 3.0MB) and Standard Plans E-20.10-00, E-20.20-00 and D-20.10-00.
- 2023-05 WSDOT MSE Wall Support Abutment Bearing Limits (PDF 124KB) revises Chapter 2 Preliminary Design (PDF 3.6MB), Chapter 7 Substructure Design (PDF 2.4MB), Chapter 8 Walls and Buried Structures (PDF 3.0MB), and Chapter 10 - Sign, Barrier, Approach Slabs, and Utilities (PDF 8.6MB) and provides revisions to align with construction clearances in the Design Manual, to provide clarity on minimum height requirements per test level of rigid barriers, to update and incorporate revised metrics for concrete barrier at the TL-4 level, as well as to update related elements such as moment slab design for TL-4 test levels in relation to the other changes.
