Project overview
We improved mobility on I-5 through Seattle by moving barrier on a 1,500-foot section and creating three through lanes near Seneca Street, adding ramp meters for the Dearborn/I-90 and Cherry Street on-ramps and extending the Active Traffic and Demand Management system north to SR 520.
What to expect
People traveling overnight on northbound I-5 should plan for lane reductions on mainline I-5 or in the collector/distributor ramps.
When both the collector/distributor and mainline I-5 are closed, the express lanes will remain open northbound, but the first express lanes exit is NE 42nd Street in the University District. People going to downtown Seattle should use the Edgar Martinez Drive exit or take eastbound I-90 to Rainier Avenue.

Work between Yesler Way and SR 520 will add a short section of a third lane between Seneca Street and the Washington State Convention Center, ramp meters at the Dearborn/I-90 and Cherry Street on-ramps and extend the Active Traffic and Demand Management system.
