Construction on the North Spokane Corridor began in August 2001. So far, 5.5 miles of the North Spokane Corridor have been constructed and are open to traffic from Wandermere to the Freya interchange just north of Francis Avenue. In order to complete the final 5 miles of the North Spokane Corridor into I-90, the BNSF railroad tracks needed to be moved in the Hillyard area of northeast Spokane to make way for the freeway. Now that it's been completed, the North Spokane Corridor can now be constructed from where it ends at roughly Columbia Avenue down to the Spokane River and through to I-90.
Construction began in late 2019 and was completed in August 2021.
