All lanes in both directions of SR 529 at the Snohomish River Bridge reopened early Monday, Nov. 18.
Project overview
Corrosion from weather is damaging the Snohomish River Bridge and Steamboat Slough Bridge. Beginning in 2023, crews working for WSDOT have been rehabilitating the northbound SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge between Everett and Marysville by repairing or replacing steel truss elements, substructure elements, sway frames, timber sidewalks, cleaning and painting metal surfaces, and mechanical and electrical rehabilitation. Crews will also perform rehabilitation work to the SR 529 Steamboat Slough Bridges in both directions to ensure the end lift upper wheels work properly and the movable span is balanced.
What to expect
Use northbound I-5 through Everett or plan for long delays on Broadway/SR 529 in north Everett during the afternoon commute. Weekdays experience delays, but Fridays are seeing 60- to 90-minute delays and gridlocked city streets.
SR 529 travelers can expect:
SR 529 at the Snohomish River Bridge: The northbound SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge reopened the morning of Nov. 18, so SR 529 has been restored to two lanes in each direction.
There still may be lane reductions on the northbound SR 529 Snohomish River Bridge through spring 2025.
Southbound SR 529 Steamboat Slough Bridge:
Some weekend-long closures are possible; if these occur traffic will be diverted to southbound I-5. Local access to tribal lands will be open.
This project includes work on the northbound Snohomish River Bridge and both directions on the Steamboat Slough Bridges.
