Project overview
Beginning in summer 2022, contractor crews from Thompson Bros. Excavating worked to construct a roundabout in east Vancouver, between the intersection of Fourth Plain Boulevard, also known as SR 500 and Northeast 182nd Avenue. Crash data collected over a five-year timeframe between 2013 to 2017 showed that this intersection had a significant amount of crashes, most of which were rear-end or at-angle crashes. Installing a compact roundabout at this intersection improves safety by reducing the potential for these severe types of collisions, while keeping traffic flowing through the intersection.
What to expect
Project is completed.
In summer 2022 contractor crews working for WSDOT constructed and installed a compact roundabout at the intersection Fourth Plain Boulevard, also known and SR 500 and Northeast 182nd Avenue. Currently, this stretch of roadway is curved, which makes it difficult for travelers to see vehicles stopped ahead who are wanting to turn left off of the highway. A compact roundabout at this intersection improves safety by reducing the potential for collisions, while keeping traffic flowing through the intersection. Additionally, a compact roundabout accommodates large vehicles such as buses and freight trucks, by allowing them to travel over the central island.
