SR 302 - E of Elgin Clifton Rd to SR 16 - Remove fish barriers, paving and ADA compliance

Project overview

In summer 2022, our contractor began fish barrier corrections to replace two outdated culverts at Little Minter Creek under State Route 302. Since 2019, crews have completed paving and ADA ramp work for eight miles of SR 302 in addition to correcting three identified barriers to salmon and resident fish in Minter Creek. The project reached substantial completion in September 2022, but crews had to return in summer 2023 to make repairs caused by winter storms.

What to expect

In summer 2023, crews returned to Little Minter Creek to make repairs to the stream channel that was damaged during winter storms. Travelers saw single-lane alternating traffic in August during the work. Crews will continue to work outside of the roadway to complete the repairs to the culvert.

Throughout the fall of 2022, travelers experienced intermittent daytime lane and shoulder closures, Monday through Friday, during daytime hours from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. while crews finished installing railing on top of the culverts and completed small work items on the project.

The work for Little Minter Creek is located between mileposts 11.4 and 11.5, or near 118th Avenue Northwest and 123rd Avenue Northwest, respectively.

Beginning summer 2022, crews returned to Little Minter Creek near Purdy in Pierce County to replace outdated culverts under the highway.
