The East Trent Bridge spans the Spokane River just east of Hamilton Street in east Spokane. The structure has been in service since 1910 and is well beyond its useful life. The roadway surface, bridge rail and piers require continuing extensive maintenance and repairs. As part of this project, the existing bridge will be demolished in sections and a new bridge will be built in its place. The structure will meet all current design and safety standards. SR 290/Trent Avenue will be resurfaced as part of the project from Hamilton Street to the new Martin Luther King Jr. Way roundabout at Perry Street.
Construction began on March 9, 2020. In-water work and demolition of the bridge began on June 1, 2020. Due to environmental reasons, work on the bridge stops in early November and cannot resume until Spokane River water levels allow on June 1, each year. The East Trent Bridge reopened to traffic on Monday, July 10, 2023. Construction was completed nearly six months ahead of schedule as the initial completion of the bridge was not expected to happen until November 2023.
