A previous shoulder failure occurred at this location in March of 2017 and was repaired by maintenance crews.
In April of 2023, WSDOT maintenance staff identified a shoulder failure on the southbound lane of SR 25 approximately two miles north of Hunters in Stevens County. This failure occurred after a significant rainfall event and the southbound lane was temporarily closed for several months. An investigation revealed that there is shallow ground water in this area, a seasonal spring is located on the slope adjacent to the roadway, and the culvert was partially blocked. The road has since been temporarily repaired and the southbound lane reopened.
Project is anticipated to begin in June and continue through August of 2024.
