Project overview
WSDOT made roadway improvement across three sections of a 12-mile stretch of State Route 20 in Island County. The work included grinding off the old pavement, laying new asphalt and installing new pavement markings. This project will extend the life of the existing pavement and create a smoother ride for people traveling in the area.
The project updated some intersections to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines, including the installation of concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks and upgrading ADA ramps.
What to expect
What to expect
People can expect day and night work along SR 20, including shoulder and single-lane closures. Center turn lanes also may be closed at the same time as adjacent lanes. When the highway is reduced to one open lane, flaggers or pilot cars will alternate traffic. Sidewalk closures also should be expected with pedestrian detours in place.
Crews will make improvements in three sections along SR 20:
- From Lombardy Lane (milepost 28) to West Waterloo Road (milepost 30), south of Oak Harbor.
- From Goldie Road (milepost 33) to Case Road (milepost 34) in Oak Harbor.
- From north of Fakkema Road (milepost 34) to north of Ault Field Road (milepost 35), north of Oak Harbor.
