SR 14 - I-205 to SE 164th Avenue Auxiliary Lanes - Complete fall 2024

Project overview

With more traffic using State Route 14 than ever before, this project constructed new lanes of travel in both directions of SR 14 between I-205 and Southeast 164th Avenue in Vancouver to help ease congestion and improve travel reliability and safety.

This project also created a new Part-Time Shoulder Lane. It allows vehicles to use the shoulder as a travel lane during peak travel times, increasing the road’s capacity by adding an extra lane for travel.

The part-time shoulder lane on SR 14 is a 13-foot-wide shoulder that runs about 1.5 miles in the westbound direction between Southeast 164th Avenue and I-205. This will be the first part-time shoulder lane operating in the Portland/Clark County area.

Drivers can use the part-time shoulder lane to access northbound I-205 when the electronic signs indicate it is open.
