This project has been suspended. In 2010, we began a long-term program to improve mobility in Federal Way around the I-5/SR 18/SR 161 interchange, known as the “Triangle.” Traffic in the area has increased beyond what the original interchange was designed to handle, with about 293,000 vehicles moving through this interchange every day. Frequent backups, particularly during peak travel times, are common.
In 2012 we completed flyover ramps between I-5 and SR 18. There is no timeline for completing additional work in this area.
This project is being constructed in stages. The first stage was completed in 2012. The remaining stages have been suspended, with no date for completion scheduled.
