Contract summary
The “Montlake Phase” is one of several projects programmed to replace windstorm- and earthquake-vulnerable structures as well as to improve mobility for people and commerce across Lake Washington and through the SR 520 corridor from Seattle to Redmond. The Montlake Phase project will include:
Replacing the West Approach Bridge (Br 520/7.5) with a new West Approach Bridge South(WABS) structure, providing a final connection with the south half of the new floating bridge with the western Lake Washington shoreline at the vicinity of 24th Ave E.
The new WABS structure will be built to accommodate an added eastbound (EB) HOV lane.
Replacing the existing Montlake Blvd. (SR 513) undercrossing (Br 513/10) with a new community enhanced lid structure, The new lid structure includes modifications to the SR 520 and Montlake Blvd. (SR 513)interchange and the 24th Ave E interchange (including reconstruction of portions of the EB SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd., the EB SR 520 on-ramp from Montlake Blvd., the westbound (WB) SR 520 on-ramp from Montlake Blvd., the WB SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Blvd. and the WB SR 520 off-ramp to 24th Ave E).
The addition of two new direct access ramps at the reconstructed 24th Ave E interchange including an EB on-ramp and a WB off-ramp.
New pedestrian crossing over SR 520 (pedestrian land bridge) connecting pedestrian trails from the Washington Park Arboretum (on the south side of SR 520) with pedestrian trails at the East Montlake Park (on the north side of SR 520), and Other multi-modal improvements including: improved connections for paths and trails at various locations, and completion of a new shared-use tunnel under Montlake Blvd. (with final connection to the existing Bill Dawson Trail to be completed in the future Portage Bay Bridge Project).
