Drivers near Loon Lake should plan for extra travel time and detours
LOON LAKE – Work to improve safety and provide a smoother ride on US 395 is set to begin next week.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 15, construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin paving 12 miles of the highway between Loon Lake and Hafer Road. This section of US 395 was last paved in 2009 and is part of an international shipping route between the U.S. and Canada.
Crews will also begin building a roundabout to improve traffic flow and improve safety at the “Four Corners” intersection of State Route 292 and US 395. A roundabout was chosen to improve safety at this intersection based on crash data collected between 2013 and 2017.
“What many in Loon Lake have been waiting for is finally coming to fruition,” said Project Engineer Pete Corley.
What to expect during construction
- Overnight single-lane closures on US 395 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.
- Travelers should expect delays up to 20 minutes during the paving portion of the project.
- Drivers will be guided through the work zone via pilot car.
- Access to the intersection at SR 292 and US 395 will be restricted for 15 days while crews work to construct a roundabout near Loon Lake. Drivers will be redirected through the work zone during the four stages of the project.
- No lane closures will be in place during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Before heading out the door, travelers can find highway conditions on the WSDOT Travel Alerts page, mobile app and on the regional Twitter account.
