No masks needed at Seattle/Bainbridge route online open house

SEATTLE – The Seattle/Bainbridge route is the busiest ferry route in Washington. Before the pandemic, more than 3.2 million commuters, travelers and tourists used the terminal overhead walkway annually. Ahead of construction on a new walkway, Washington State Ferries will host a 30-day online open house starting Wednesday, Feb. 9.

The current overhead loading walkway is almost 50 years old. This project would replace the aging wooden structure with a new, seismically sound, steel fortified walkway.

Washington State Ferries is asking members of the public to visit the online open house from Feb. 9 to March 3, 2022, to review and comment on the project.

Comments will help create an inclusive public outreach effort ahead of construction on the busiest walk-on passenger route. The design of the walkway is the result of extensive public input.

Slow down – lives are on the line.

Excessive speed was a top cause of work zone collisions in 2024.

Phone down, eyes up.

Work zones need our undivided attention.

It's in EVERYONE’S best interest.

96% of people hurt in work zones are drivers, their passengers or passing pedestrians, not just our road crews.
