Project overview
This project removes the weight restrictions and restores the structural integrity of the Mabton bridges. The slough bridge will be replaced, and the bridge over the Yakima River will be retrofitted.
What to expect
Crews have closed a half-mile section of SR 241 between Wheelers Smoke-N-Gas and the Yakima River Boat Launch. This section will remain closed until construction is complete in 2025. Wheelers Smoke-N-Gas and the Yakima River Boat Launch will remain open through the duration of the project.
Detour route for cars
Travelers will be detoured to Grandview Pavement, Hornby, Chase, South Euclid and East Euclid roads. This detour will add about 15 minutes to travel time.
Detour route for trucks
Truck traffic will be detoured from East Euclid Road to SR 22 via Phillips Road to prevent congestion at Artz Fox Elementary School in Mabton. Trucks should use caution when turning right from Phillips Road onto SR 22. There is limited storage at the intersection for trucks after crossing the railroad tracks.
Crews are restoring the Mabton bridges, which will allow legal loads and make the structures seismic compliant.
The bridges are currently closed, and there is a signed detour route around the area.
